JOEL GAITAN: ART SUNDAE

JOEL GAITAN: ART SUNDAE
This Art Sundae installation is a collaboration between children and multidisciplinary artist Joel Gaitan.
On February, 11, 2023, Gaitan led a children’s public art-making workshop inspired by Gaitan’s current exhibition at Rockefeller Center.
Participants were invited to create unique vessels using clay, an element featured prominently in Gaitan’s work as a sculptor. Believing that "storytelling is the poetry of life," Gaitan shared his Nicaragüense heritage and aesthetics with the children through creating traditional hand-built terracotta vessels.
Joel Gaitan is a Miami-based artist who has developed a creative practice studying self-identity and ancestral lineage through clay. Gaitan's practice is multi-faceted and layered as he highlights various colors, styles, and forms in his work, facilitating space for viewers to celebrate Central American traditions. Gaitan’s artwork can be found in locations throughout the Center, including murals at 10 Rockefeller Plaza, 30 Rockefeller Plaza, 50 Rockefeller Plaza, the street and concourse levels of 45 Rockefeller Plaza, Top of the Rock, Radio Park, and the ZO Clubhouse, as well as paper cut-out installations in the lobby of 45 Rockefeller Plaza.
