The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, in partnership with Art Production Fund, is pleased to announce artist-in-residence Dan Kopp. During his residency in P3Studio, Kopp will invite guests to collaborate with him on the creation of a mural-scale, sculptural puzzle. He will begin the process by using a computer controlled shaping machine called a CNC router to cut hundreds of blocks into shapes selected from his previous works. These blocks will then be used in a relief printing process, which guests will have the opportunity to arrange, thus forming the resulting image.
With innumerable configurations possible, the final work will be a true reflection of the collaborative effort between guests and the artist. Guests will also be invited to participate in the relief printing process, learning about the craft while gaining insight into the artist's thought process. In addition to contributing to the collaborative work, guests will be able to create a block print or painted shape they can keep as a memento from their experience.
Dan Kopp is a visual artist who lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. He has exhibited widely at galleries, museums and art spaces in the U.S. and internationally. His work was included in Greater New York 2005 at MoMA’s P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center and he has had solo exhibitions at CTRL Gallery, Houston, Motus Fort, Tokyo, Shoshana Wayne Gallery, LA, Bravin Lee Programs, NYC and BucketRider Gallery, Chicago. Dan studied painting at the Cleveland Art Institute, the Lacoste School of Art in Lacoste, France and at the Skowhegan School for Painting and Sculpture.
The artist-in-residence program at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas represents one component of its larger art program, in which artists create projects that are interactive and participatory, giving guests the opportunity to connect at an authentic and personal level. Developed and curated in partnership with Art Production Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to producing ambitious public art projects, it strives to reach new audiences and expand awareness through contemporary art.
