WATERSIDE CHILDREN'S STUDIO SCHOOL STUDENTS TO COLLABORATE WITH CONTEMPORARY ARTIST CES ON PUBLIC ART INSTALLATION
*****
Art Production Fund & Fort Gansevoort are pleased to present the fifth iteration of Art Sundae in collaboration with contemporary artist CES and the students of the Waterside Children's Studio School.
On Wednesday, June 19th 3rd – 5th-grade students from Waterside Children's Studio School in Rockaway Park joined contemporary artist CES to create colorful stylized writings of their names and favorite foods using spray paint in CES's iconic "Wildstyle," alphabetic reconfiguration writing.
"I plan on taking the kids on an aerosol adventure and creating different forms, shapes, and concepts. Composing our names from anything from fruit to vegetables and beyond," said CES
Following the workshop, CES will integrate his work with the children's artwork to create a large-scale mural, which will be publicly installed around the perimeter of The Rockaway Hotel located on Beach 108th Street. The installation will be on view through Fall 2019.
“We are so thrilled to bring together the Waterside Children’s Studio School and CES for a day of imaginative art making. It’s a wonderful opportunity for the children to proudly have their work on public display for the local community and thousands of summer visitors to the Rockaway beaches,” said Casey Fremont, Executive Director of Art Production Fund.
"We love working with Art Production Fund in order to bring great artists’ work and ideas out into the public realm with the help of New York City kids,” said Carolyn Angel, Co-Founder of Fort Gansevoort
CES, born Robert Michael Provenzano in 1970, is a New York City leader of the streamlined and aerodynamic "Wildstyle," alphabetic reconfiguration in contemporary graffiti. His innovations have influenced an entire generation of graffiti writers in the United States and abroad. Besides New York, he has done work in cities as varied as Athens, Boston, Basel, Tokyo, Amsterdam, and Berlin.
