The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, in partnership with Art Production Fund, announces artist-in-residence Abby Robinson. In her project, Body Imaging, Robinson invites guests to be photographed in her humorous riff on the more serious experience around visiting a medical office. In her performative role as “photo practitioner”, Robinson, like a doctor, is given unique and privileged access to photograph body parts, particularly the special, often secret, places that are entrusted to her by her patients/participants. Guests are then given a copy of the photograph and a copy is left on the studio wall for visitors to view.

Abby Robinson’s photographs have been exhibited in the U.S., Europe and Asia and are in the collections of the Whitney Museum (NYC), the Museum of Fine Arts (Houston), the Portland Art Museum, (Portland, OR), the William Benton Museum of Art (Storrs, CT) and Light Works (Syracuse, NY). Her photographs have appeared in The New York Times, The New Yorker, Photo District News, Dear Dave, Shots, and Photographers International plus garnered grants from the Fulbright Foundation, the Asian Cultural Council, The Siskind Foundation, The American Institute of Sri Lankan Studies and the New York Foundation of the Arts.

Abby Robinson currently lives and works in New York City. Along with doing her own personal projects, she teaches photography at the prestigious School of Visual Arts (SVA) in Manhattan in both the B.F.A. Photography and the Graphic Design & Advertising Departments. In addition, she’ been a guest lecturer in a number of American colleges as well as in Korea, Hong Kong, China, India and Turkey. She also leads SVA’s annual summer Digital Photography Workshop in Shanghai.

The artist-in-residence program at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas represents one component of its larger art program, in which artists create projects that are interactive and participatory, giving guests the opportunity to connect at an authentic and personal level. Developed and curated in partnership with Art Production Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to producing ambitious public art projects, it strives to reach new audiences and expand awareness through contemporary art.
